Chapter Eight
1. In the beginning of the Institution Artigianelli Father Piamarta had two special coworkers: the cleric, Emilio Bongiorni, and Dominatore Mainetti. The first was destined to become the first auxiliary Bishop of Brescia; the second, mayor of Brescia. Always among the first coworkers, were some precious priests from Pavone who lived with Monsignor Capretti. Also some priests and lay people, and then some of his own pupils joined him to share his mission and his laborious, demanding, difficult life.
2. Father wanted to be surrounded by more than a group of coworkers. He wanted to create a stable community that was like a family, where you could live, work, pray together and help each other to serve the young boys. This environment contributed to helping the boys to feel as if in a family, “to give a family to the one who has none”, and prepared the young boys to behave respectfully, to welcome, and to host; all irreplaceable prerequisites for building a family.
3. Here the “Congregation of the Holy Family of Nazareth” was born. Inspired by the model of the Holy Family Priests and lay people formed a group who dedicated their whole life to the service of God and the young boys. The Holy Family inspired them to live like brothers, which demands—as Father Piamarta would say-- “patience, charity, cordiality, treating each other affably, and abounding in sweetness towards each other. This Spirit has to penetrate deeply into the heart of our Holy Institution”. The result was a stable family destined to renew and continue his work for a long time.
4. Thus, the Holy Family became “The Family for the families”; whether for the religious one, or for the one for the boys, or for that one which the boys would someday build.
5. A family cannot lack the feminine element. With Mother Elisa Bardo Father Piamarta founded the “Auxiliaries of the Holy Family” who would take the name “Humble servants of the Lord”. This congregation was an irreplaceable support to Piamarta's work for many decades and to it goes the full gratitude of Father Piamarta sons.
6. The model chosen therefore was the Holy Family of Nazareth. The reference to Nazareth was not a accidental one. Nazareth is the place where work was sanctified, because the Son of God worked manually there. If the cultural exaltation of work is necessary to rediscover its inherent dignity, potentiality to build the person, contribution to society and progress, nevertheless, it is not sufficient to expunge its exhausting aspect, strain and the disappointment that go with it. The gaze to Nazareth helps put work in the right perspective as participation in the redemptive labor of the Holy Family. The one who works and sweats with Jesus will not lose his reward.
7. Father Piamarta's invitation was and continues to be to go spiritually to Nazareth to discover the virtue of the daily job. For the one who looks to Nazareth the darkness of the daily grind is lightened and gains a new dimension. In Nazareth, far from the spotlight, the Son of God grew. In the monotony of the daily work we are invited to discover the Son of God who desires to grow in us, to have light and peace and to bring light and peace.
